It’s somewhat of a paradox to observe that the concept of unity has its expression in many different forms. Yet in examining almost any field of study, school of philosophy or social movement, each has their own way to demonstrate connectedness. E=MC² means the same thing as reincarnation if you ponder the faith behind the formula. After completing my 200 hour certification in March of 2010 I was honored to have the opportunity to serve the yoga community by teaching at Hilltop.

My classes encourage empirical exploration, and are really an invitation to cultivate awareness. The body, the mind, the spirit, the breath – it all moves in cycles, just like every other part of nature, just like the universe as a whole. Our individual selves are a microcosm of what is happening all the time around us. There’s nothing mystical or mysterious about Yoga – just the simple acknowledgement of this connection.

Coming from a background of endurance athletics, I’ve been asked how ultra-distance running and racing triathlons compares to practicing Yoga. I love how each of those disciplines allow the practitioner to come to the realization that everything you need, everything you want to become, is already within you, and that for the most part, the practice simply strips away everything else that is unnecessary.

I encourage my students to celebrate their own path and to “be an artist of yourself”. The beauty of Yoga is that it allows you to begin where you are, today, and proceed at your own pace. The endearing aspect is that instead of a finish line, you evolve and learn.

These days I run less, practice yoga more, and seek balance. By integrating yogic principals into everyday life I find and follow the thread of continuity linking humble, life-affirming acts – gardening, healthy eating, holistic living, community service…

I welcome you to the studio, and invite you to experience your own connections.

Namaste, Nicholas
